In our used goods store, we frequently receive retro and modern games, and a crucial part of our job is to ensure that prices are fair for both us and our customers. To do this, we use PriceCharting.com, a website that provides us with up-to-date market prices based on actual sales. What is PriceCharting.com?

PriceCharting is a website that collects prices from eBay and other marketplaces to provide an average price for video games. The prices are updated regularly and are divided into three categories:  

1. Loose (game only, without box or manual)

2. Complete in Box (CIB – with original box and manual)

3. New (unused and sealed)

This makes it easy for us to assess how much a game is worth, depending on its condition.  

How do we use PriceCharting for pricing?

1. Search for the game.

When we receive a game, we first go to PriceCharting.com and search for the title. It's important to be precise, especially with older games that may have multiple versions and editions.  

2. Select the correct version

Many games exist in different regions (NTSC, PAL, JAP), and some have special editions. We double-check that we have the correct version before looking at prices.  

3. Assess the condition.

We look at whether the game is loose, complete with box and manual, or brand new. The condition significantly affects the value.  

4. Set a competitive price.

We usually set the price based on PriceCharting, but adjust it up or down depending on:  

- The condition of the game (scratches, wear on the cover, etc.)  

- Demand in Norway.

- How rare the game is to find in our store.
